Crescent Park Neighborhood - Palo Alto
With University Avenue passing through the Crescent Park neighborhood, one of the first views many visitors have of Palo Alto is of part of this neighborhoodl. Many of the homes and lots are very well maintained, older, and larger presenting a very good impression for Palo Alto.
Although whiskey gulch has been replaced by attractive, towering, hi-rise buildings at the corner of University and highway 101, University Avenue still provides some dramatic contrasts along its length. At one end, roughly between El Camino Real and Middlefield Road is downtown Palo Alto with its many Restaurants and small specialized stores. Heading towards the freeway quickly enters the Crescent Park neighborhood having many large stately homes. Just before reaching highway 101, University Avenue passes by some new very nice hi-rise buildings. Continuing across over the freeway University passes by a fairly new large shopping area built in the town of East Palo Alto having an Ikea, Home Depot, Best Buy, Good-Guys, Office Max, and several other shops. After making a jog to the left to connect back up with University Avenue, the road then passes though downtown East Palo Alto.
